These online e-learning courses provide an introduction to Quality Improvement Methodologies as part of Wessex PSCs work to develop Quality Improvement capability among healthcare staff and patient/carer partners.
Quality Improvement Science Training - Bronze Level
This e-learning course is provided free of charge by Wessex AHSN and is available to all healthcare staff and patient/carer partners across Wessex as well as others interested in supporting or delivering improvement.
The course is based on NHS Wales' highly tested and successful '1000 Lives Plus' Bronze Level training and is delivered by Wessex AHSN in conjunction with the Yorkshire and Humber AHSN Improvement Academy.
Aimed at all staff groups and patient/carer partners, this course introduces the 'Model for Improvement' and some practical Quality Improvement tools such as PDSA cycles, followed by a short quiz at the end of each module. It takes approximately two hours to complete and on completing all the modules a certificate of completion can be printed off.

Human Factors Training - Bronze Level
This entry level Human Factors e-learning course includes a spectrum of foundation knowledge, such as an introduction to Human Factors basic concepts, recognising how Human Factors impact on patient safety, and how to use this understanding to make everyday practice in the workplace safer.
This course is delivered free of charge by Wessex AHSN in conjunction with the Yorkshire and Humber AHSN Improvement Academy.
This online training is delivered through six modules and includes activities such as watching video clips, short quizzes, and taking time to reflect on personal experience.

Improvement Fundamentals (NHSE)
Improvement Fundamentals is a programme of online, self-directed mini-courses in quality improvement (QI) for those involved in heath or social care services.
A programme of short, bite-sized mini-courses takes you through the preparation and delivery of an improvement within your workplace step-by-step. It is focussed on equipping you with practical knowledge, skills and support, helping you undertakes your own improvement project as you progress through the mini-courses and is designed to provide ample opportunity for discussion and collaboration with peers and facilitators to provide learners with a network of support.
The courses are free to take part in, and are delivered entirely online in the form of videos, articles, discussion and practical exercises that contribute to your own improvement project. The programme is organised into four essential learning areas or suites: Quality improvement theory; Quality improvement tools; Measuring for quality improvement and Spreading quality improvement
Each course will be facilitated for a week, during which time participants will have access to SI’s topic experts for guidance and advice. Learners are able to complete the courses in their own time, with each taking around 2.5 hours in total. This can be done all together or in half hour chunks throughout the week.
After successfully completing each mini-course, learners will receive a certificate of completion for their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) records. More information can be found on the NHSE Improvement Fundamentals webpage.
