Emergency Laparotomy Collective

Innovation Type: Care Model

Innovation Origin: AHSN National Programme

Best practice and Quality Improvement bundles for EL surgery.

Wessex Patient Safety Collaborative and Wessex AHSN have recently launched the Emergency Laparotomy Programme (ELP). The aim of the ELP is to build on the successful outcomes of the Emergency Laparotomy Collaborative (ELC) which was a collaboration over two years between the three Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) of Wessex, West of England and Kent Surrey Sussex aimed at improving the standard of care patients undergoing emergency laparotomy in a bid to reduce mortality rates, complications and length of stay.

The ELP is comprised of various Quality Improvement, Best Practice methodologies and audits to streamline and improve the surgical pathway.

Further details on the ELP can be found on our dedicated ELP page
