This 2017 discussion paper reviews published literature in relation to physician associates, extended scope paramedic practitioners, extended scope physiotherapists and extended scope clinical pharmacists as well as studies that investigate more than one allied healthcare professionals engaged in some degree of task substitution for GPs. This report includes a comparison of each HCP according to key performance indicators (status/skills, clinical impact, financial impact, stakeholder satisfaction and enablers and barriers).
