Lesley Mackenzie

Programme Manager

Lesley has over 30 years experience in the NHS as a general nurse working in acute, community and mental health organisations first as a clinician then as a manager of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)and Patient Safety Teams. In 2006 she gained a first class honours degree in Health Protection and subsequently went on to study Professional Practice at MSc level.
She has managed a number of projects both locally and regionally including Sign up to Safety, Wessex IPC and South of England Mental Health Safety Collaborative, recognising the benefit of working in partnership with a common goal. Lesley became an Associate Faculty Member for Wessex Patient Safety Collaborative in June 2015 prior to joining the team in August 2016 as Patient Safety Programme Manager. She leads on a number of work streams including; Primary Care, the Patient Safety Support Fund, Emergency Department Network and Wessex Maternity and Neonatal Safety Community which links with the NHSI National Programme. In addition she supports delivery of the culture work stream managing the Human Factors and Promoting Positive Practice Events.

In 2017 Lesley became an active member of the Q Community and is a regional Q Connector for Wessex. When she’s not at work Lesley is wife, mother to 2 grown up children and owner of one young energetic Jack Russell which shares a passion for walking and weekends away in the campervan. Patient safety is at the heart of what she does not only as a nurse but as a wife, mother and patient. Lesley continuously strives to support front line staff to provide the safest care possible.
