Telehealth, Epilepsy & Learning Disabilities January 2013 – Trevor Hutton

Trevor Hutton gives an overview of the Epilepsy Society, focusing on the research centre that opened in January 2013. The Epilepsy Society will be doing research into genomes and imaging using MRI, and Trevor describes the apps that the society has developed.

Rebecca Case, Specialist Epilepsy Nurse, gives an overview of the team at University Hospital Southampton who are using telehealth to deliver care to people with epilepsy. Rebecca describes how diagnosis is made and what tools are available to help patients manage their condition.

The Hampshire Health Record

The idea behind the HHR is to improve patient care through sharing health records between care providers. Essentially it is a database of health records which is fed from a number of different clinical IT systems used by different health care providers, eg GP clinical systems, hospital s including path, rad, discharge summaries and clinic letters, so that when the patient chooses, this information is available to clinical staff treating them

Mark Doorbar: using Telehealth, Telecare & Technology in Primary Care

Mark Doorbar offers insight into the types of products and systems developed by Safe Patient Systems for use by patients living with long-term conditions.


Wessex HIEC Partnership Telehealth and Telecare Conference Part 1: June 2011

The promotion of telehealth and telecare was highlighted at the Wessex wide conference held in June 2011.

The conference described work that is being done locally to improve outcomes for patients and ways to reduce costs across the health system through prevention of acute hospital admissions. Over 70 people from across the region attended this conference and it gave the Wessex HIEC a mandate for work going forwards.

Speakers included: Ros Tolcher, CEO of the Solent NHS Trust, who described the work being done in her trust and the impact this is having on working practices for her staff and on the issues that have been addressed to embed this way of working.

Mike Clark, an independent consultant with the Kings Fund shared his vision of telecare and telehealth developments in England and the evolving landscape of commissioning through clinical commissioning groups.

Mark Fisher, an independent consultant on telecare working on the south coast, described the work he has done in supporting the implementation of telecare in local authorities, and the learning that health trusts can gain from this.
