Insight

Promising innovations may lack robust evidence to support NHS adoption, or conversely uptake of proven innovations may be poor because of a lack of alignment with system levers. The insights we’ve generated from innovators, patients and organisations this year have helped systems to decide what innovations to adopt for optimum success.

What was delivered in 2021-22?

  • Advised 28 innovators about real world validations of their products and services including practical support to plan implementation, understand potential impact and review evidence.
  • Supported the AHSN Network to become a national authority on spread and adoption, via our spread and adoption report highlighted in national NHS England toolkit and two national conferences.
  • Partnered with Dorset Innovation Hub to co-design the local evaluation and resources to support capability building in evaluation and innovation adoption.
  • Developed a new outcome measure to increase insights into how spread and adoption occur, Attitudes Toward Innovation Survey (ATIS).
  • Collaborated with a Hampshire GP practice, Assura PLC and Hampshire Southampton & Isle of Wight CCG to support the development of a future exemplar of new ways of working and digital innovation within new premises.
  • Supported the wider development of evaluation and implementation capability through co-designing evaluations, evaluation workshops and regular training engagements for the Wessex Health Innovation Programme and University of Southampton Public Health master’s degree.
